During the month of May Ballyduff Active Retirement Group joined with the activities of many Active Retirement Groups throughout the country, in celebrating an important annual event for older people. Known as the "Bealtaine" Festival, it celebrates the creativity of older people, by focusing on artistic activities. Their event took place on Monday 29th May, in the Ballyduff Family Resource Centre, which is home to the group.
This year the members were being particularly adventurous, in choosing Dance as their activity. In previous years they have held art exhibitions, an exhibition of craft-work, sung songs in Irish, and in English, and been addressed by writers. The well-known Tralee dance instructor Debbie Driscoll assisted the group, who found this activity to be the most enjoyable of them all, so far.
The group always combines this event with another important one on their calendar, the Alzheimer's Tea Party. So, visitors to the centre on that day were able to watch what they have been working on so hard, and then enjoy a cup of tea and a cake, and make a donation to this very important charity, .Most importantly, they were invited to join with the group through audience participation, learning their exercised to music, and the steps of their dance. Everyone was welcome. The members of Ballyduff ARG met everyone, and everyone joined in and had fun. We raised €398 for the Rosemary Centre which is our local Alzheimer's Centre.
