Active Retirement Ireland Expresses Sympathy on Passing of Mid West Region Secretary

It was with great sympathy and sadness that the staff and board of Active Retirement Ireland learned of the passing of Margaret Guilfoyle, regional secretary for the Mid West Region. A native of Leixlip, Co. Kildare, Margaret had dedicated her time to various volunteer causes, including Active Retirement Ireland. As a volunteer, Margaret was selfless and kind, and was a well-liked member of Carrig Riverstown Killeen Active Retirement Association.

Speaking in 2012 about her volunteer work with the Irish Heart Foundation, Margaret said, "Everyone has been touched by heart disease and stroke and by volunteering I feel I am doing my bit to keep hearts beating. I feel good knowing that every happy heart I sell will help patients and families get the support and advice they need right here in Offaly and around the country."

Appointed regional secretary in 2013, Margaret was a valuable addition to the Mid West Region committee and played a central role in organising their regional activities, including the 2015 and 2016 Marigold Festival events.

She will be sorely missed by her fellow members of her ARA and Region, and is survived by her sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and scores of friends whose lives she touched.
