Active Retirement Ireland reaffirm call on the Government to address future pension and health demands
13th May, 2015: Active Retirement Ireland today reaffirmed its call on the Government to address future pension and health demands. In April 2013 the government launched the National Positive Ageing Strategy which is a comprehensive plan to address the trend of increasing numbers of older people in the Irish context.
This strategy recognises the population growth and the need to plan effectively to ensure that the growth in numbers of older people is planned for across all departments. Two years on we are still waiting for the implementation of this strategy.
CEO of Active Retirement Ireland, Maureen Kavanagh, today stated: “The lack of implementation of the National Positive Ageing Strategy continues to impact the pensions and health performance in Ireland. Irish people cannot plan effectively to ensure that as we age we are not a burden. Our most senior policy makers are not committed to dealing with this changing demographic so getting older will effectively become the time bomb being talked about.”
