The Go for Life Games is a celebration of physical
activity. On 8 June 2013, it will bring together almost 200 older
participants along with their supporters for a festival of fun sporting
activities. The teams represent older people's groups from Carlow, Cork,
Dublin City, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, South County Dublin, Fingal, Kildare,
Kilkenny, Meath, South Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.
Each county will have teams taking part in three games which are
based on some of the activities played by Go for Life groups around the country
- 'Lobbers' (a target game adapted from petanque and boules), 'Flisk' (adapted
from boccia and horseshoe pitching), and 'Scidils' (an adaptation of ten pin
bowling with one skittle).
Over the next few years, Age & Opportunity plans to build the
Games into one of Ireland's significant amateur multi-sporting events.
Teams have been supported locally by their Local Sports
Partnership and the HSE.
